While in Paris, I get swept away in the city’s charms, especially when traveling solo.
This time in Paris I was there for work during Couture Fashion Week. I find treating myself to date-night can be its own adventure. A romantic table for one—why not? In Paris, anything goes! I kept it easy for my solo night-out with soft makeup with a hint of color. Lately I’ve been really into wash of colors especially emerald for the eyes. I threw on a Tylynn Nguyen slip to get ready in. I wore lots of colorful attire in the daytime when I was on my Parisian excursion trip to the Pharmacy to rifle through bottles of serums and moisturizers (I’ve included my French Pharmacy purchases. You’re welcome). By late evening I was feeling an all black wardrobe. I also felt a little creative so I wore a button up dress backwards as a robe. Finally I get to wear my blush feather heels. They are my favorite! Read on for tips on recreating my subtle Date Night makeup look- table for one, starting with skincare of course!
Très chic and affordable to boot, these lotions and potions are some of the most effective skin care I’ve used, however difficult to get ahold of in the States. My advice for fellow pharma-beauty lovers: fight the urge to change your entire regimen—it’s tempting, especially for a makeup artist. Don’t set foot into Citypharma without a plan. For me, that means finding gentle products that will work in harmony with my existing routine and that won’t irritate my sensitive skin. It’s also important that whatever skin care I use looks good under makeup, enhances skin’s texture and doesn’t interfere with my foundation. Here are a few things I picked up at the French pharmacy to prep for Date Night Makeup- table for one. These products I can use along side my normal skincare routine too so that makes me super happy!
NUXE Gel Démaquillant Fondant Melting Cleansing Gel
This cleanser easily removes eye makeup and deeply cleanses normal and sensitive skin types. It is the best solution for the inevitable dry skin that occurs post long-haul flight. I use this mild, soap-free formula morning and night, massaging it onto damp skin and rinsing to reveal a fresh, ultra soft complexion.
Soin de Jour L’Or de l’Orchidée de Exertier
A lightweight moisturizer that quickly absorbs into the skin for lasting hydration all day long. I use this morning and night—on my face and décolletage—without worrying about aggravating my skin. Pro tip: Never leave the house without sunscreen. I layer an SPF over this during the day.
Sanoflore Rosa Angelica Baume De Rosée Regenerating Night Balm
I love this organic balm-in-gel texture. It’s quickly become one of my favorite sleeping masks. The antioxidant power of the organic damask rose stimulates cell renewal, while the 100% natural hyaluronic acid hydrates the deepest layers of skin for 48 hours. After using this, I wake to nourished, illuminated skin. The best part? The pure, earthy fragrance relaxes me the moment I put it on. This is beauty sleep in a jar.
Chanel Emerald Green Palette is the way to go if you want to add a wash of color, just a hint on the eyes will make them pop—it’s all about placing the color strategically. Having added just a touch of bronzer onto the crease and socket, I then took the darkest emerald shade from the palette on a smaller, pointed brush (I wet the brush so the eyeshadow goes on more intensified, darker and I can create a diffused liner effect) and drew a sideways v-shape on the outer corner of my eyes and I blended it out. The effect is a very diffused cat eye shape, without the flick. Add more or less green depending on the intensity you seek. Remember: Makeup isn’t supposed to be perfect. Embrace the imperfections and have fun with it. The Utowa Hood Eyeshadow Brush 13 is great for getting into the crease and blending. I love the Diorshow Iconic Mascara for some drama in the evening, I’ll add two coats. Pro tip: In this look, add a bronzer to the eyelids before shadow to add a boost of warmth.
Lips & Cheeks
My go to lipstick is Spanish Pink by Tom Ford. For years this color has been my signature and you’ve probably seen this lipstick mentioned in previous posts of mine. Creamy and nude enough to look natural, but pink enough to give some color. I’m also a big fan of the Sisley Phyto-Touche Illusion D’Eté: The radiant bronze shade lifts the tan I earned wandering the streets of Paris all day, and my complexion glows. For years I’ve been using the La Prairie Cellular Cream Blush in Peach Glow. The warm color pairs beautifully with the Sisley Bronzer and makes my skin looks perfectly sun-kissed. It glides on the skin and I blend seamlessly using my fingers. Hoola by Benefit is a Bronzer, but to be honest I use Hoola as my contour, swiping it down the sides of my nose for a slight slimming effect and to accentuate my jawline. A little chiseling action!
Cle De Peau Concealer in Honey is always in my makeup bag. The warm, peach tone cancels the blue circles under my eyes like a corrector. Then I use Nars Creamy Concealer in Custard over top to brighten my under eye. Koh Gen Do Foundation is currently my favorite foundation. I don’t usually wear any, but if I do it’s a very, very small amount of the 003 Moisture Foundation mixed with the Aqua 143 is my custom color match at the moment. As I mentioned I don’t use very much foundation (if I wear any at all), just enough to even out my complexion. The end finish is light and not at all cakey. Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in the #2 shade is what I like to set my makeup with. I love the finish, flawless and airbrushed. Pro tip: use it only on the t-zone and lightly under eyes so that you don’t diminish your glow.
